I love the way the magnified pixels look and the apparent black grid between them. So I created this video by filming myself with my Xacti at 320 X 240. Then I played that video back at 1/2 size in the QuickTime player while I filmed it from a few centimeters away. Then, like all the stuff that I film with the Xacti, I converted it to DV, edited it in Final Cut Pro and then exported it for the web.<br /><br />So what do you think? What does it look like I'm thinking about? Try watching it with and without the the sound. The footage is taken from last weekend's trip to San Francisco. It was shot on <a href="http://apperceive.blogs.com/" target="_blank">Markus'</a> <a href="http://www.sanyo-dsc.com/english/products/vpc_c5/" target="_blank">Sanyo Xacti C5</a>. That camera is very cool. It's a tiny mpeg4 camera, not much bigger than my cellphone. I'm so close to ordering one for myself but I just haven't been able to embrace the low-fi image. I'm torn between that and a small (but about 3x the size) 3 chip <a href="http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start?ProductSKU=DCRPC1000&Dept=cameras&amp;CategoryName=dcc_DICamcorders_MiniDVHandycamCamcorders" target="_blank">Sony DCR PC1000</a>. The Sony would still be way smaller than my giant Digital 8 tank that I have to carry around now. Plus the image quality will better instead of worse in comparison. Decisions, decisions.<br /><br />Anyway, this video... I'm facinated by split screen images. I think it has something to do with creating a new context via justaposition. In this case I'm not sure what the new context is. These two pieces just asked me to be stuck together. As I look at it now I notice a similarity in the mechanicalness and shinyness of the robot man and the modern architecture. That's what I see right now. What about you? Care to offer an interpretation? I'm always suprised by what people come up with. It's often much more insightful that what see in my own piece. Also, I just wanted to say that I like the black bar separating the two images.
